At last I am glad to announce that this album exists. I worked on it for a long time and it means a lot to me.

Given the constraints of the pandemic I recorded these songs mostly on my own and played most of the instruments, including some that I’m not so familiar with.
My old bandmate Christopher Bear played drums throughout. Amber Wyman played bassoon on a couple songs, Jeremy Barnes added some santur to another, and John Dieterich played the electric guitar on the title track.

My hope was to make an album with a deeper connection to my actual life and with a longer view of music history. I’m not sure that’s what happened, but that’s what I was thinking about. Finishing this album was a challenge but it has given me a new sense of possibility. I’m hoping I can hang onto that feeling long enough to keep making music and sharing it.

The first song out from the album is called “Shadow in the Frame” and it’s streaming now. (links?)

I’ll be going out in late March to play some shows alone. Seriously, I’m gonna get in the car with some acoustic guitars and drive around the country for a few weeks by myself. I am probably too old and tired to do this, so you are obligated to come if you are anywhere nearby to support me on this questionable journey. The album won’t technically be released yet for the first shows but I will have it to sell! out of the trunk of my car in the parking lot, or however this is meant to work in these times of endless Covid.
It’ll be fun.
